For 30 minutes last week, 3-year-old Alexi Cotter was on top of the world.

As volunteer Heather Vohs, left, steadies the horse Gresca, Fort George G. Meade resident Alexi Cotter, a 3-year-old with an incurable, terminal genetic condition, reaches out to pet the horse at the Crownsville home of Maryland Therapeutic Riding. Board member Linda Valentino, another volunteer, stands behind Alexi. She threw back her head and crowed with delight. The tot was astride a gentle, sweet-natured horse. The steed's even, steady gait soothed her. Several pairs of adult hands reached out to steady her ride at the 25-acre Crownsville home of Maryland Therapeutic Riding. Alexi has a terminal condition that's so rare, there's not even chatter about it on the Internet. She was born with Tetrasomy 13 Mosaic. Her young mom, 25-year-old Jamie Cotter explained: "Only six children in the world have been diagnosed with this genetic condition....
