SMITHSBURG, Md. (AP) — When Patrick Bergstrom first told his family he might have an eating disorder, they were skeptical.
"Nobody seemed to understand how a guy could have an eating disorder. Nobody had even heard of a guy having an eating disorder; this was something only women suffered from," Bergstrom recalls.
Even he thought his biggest problem was binge drinking — until he found that he could control his alcohol consumption but not his aversion to food. Finally, after dropping 37 pounds and losing his fiance, the 25-year-old marketing professional from Smithsburg sought treatment at a Florida center...
