Mayo Middies girls field hockey team ends season undefeated

Until three years ago, the Mayo Athletic Association did not even field a team in girls field hockey.

Kelly Miller, the Mayo Lacrosse and Field Hockey commissioner, volunteered to organize the Mayo field hockey league in 2006, with the support of many Mayo families. Prior to 2006, the only fall sport available for girls in Mayo was soccer.

The current Mayo Middies team began playing together in 2006 as Pee Wees when they were in the third and fourth grades. This inaugural team had only nine players, with seven being needed on the field at any given time.
