Mama and Mommy: Odenton family has 2 moms, 2 kids

Capital Gazette Communications
Published 05/08/11

One thing Melanie Morris and Angela Delano remember about the start of their relationship is that it involved Scooby-Doo.

By Laura-Chase McGehee — The Capital
Angela Delano, left, greets her 4-month-old son, Brycen Morris, after coming home from work. Delano is married and raising two children with her partner of 11 years, Melanie Morris.

The pair became acquainted through a flag football league and Morris invited Delano to a movie. They can't recall much about the Keanu Reeves flick they saw, aside from disliking it. But sparks flew because Delano wore a fleece with a Scooby-Doo insignia. Morris is a big fan of the cartoon, and now, more than a decade after that first date, this is an attribute she shares with their 2-year-old son, Tyner.

The Odenton couple are among the estimated 594,000 same-sex couples in the United States, according...

I assume you'd also take issue if they had profiled a single mother with three sons serving in the armed forces? You can pull the demographic data, but I assume less than 1% of the population fits in that bucket. And of course, the only reason a newspaper would write about a single mother of 3 soldiers would be to advance the military complex agenda.

What next? Articles on rare diseases censored because it effects less than 1%? Because if not, you just might have to admit it's your prejudice speaking, not your goodwill to the 'majority'.

Here is a post including some of Editor, Tom Marquardt's rebuttals to the criticism on this column. Apparently his commentary was scrapped, but his drafts were leaked by someone at the paper.

Great way to make you point with the name calling. It was not my intent to make fun of your spelling, I had some whoppers in my reply.
My point is you can agree or disagree with me on the facts, but you have no right to question my or anyone's motivations.

Here are some real statistics for you to consider that make my point which is not anti-gay. in 2006 there were roughly 55.5 million married couples in the US (traditional same sex). the article notes that the couple featured is one of about 500,000 nationwide. (Likely a more recent statistic)

So my "narrow minded" guess of 5% was generous (500,000 is around 1% of 55 million)

so to put it another way, the main focus of mothers day coverage was on a couple that represents 1% of "married" couples in the US. If you factored in non-married couples and single parent households they represent far less than 1% of mothers.

So sure, i'm sure it's the rest of us with an agenda

Since you are obviously clairvoyant and can read what is in my hart(heart), pehaps you can also se the futuree and tell me what the winning lottery numbers will be.

No one said the the couple featured in the story had an agenda or was being "in your face", or anything else.

The question is the Capital pushing an agenda with the story. I feel the capital is making it political by making it the main story.

I read the story and have no doubt that they are a loving couple that are providing a loving environment for their children. I have no issues with them.

throwing it in faces? - 2011-05-14 10:28:26

They are living their life! It's an article about love and family and two mothers!

Stop being short sighted for a second and look - its not about being gay - its about two mothers trying to live their lives. Oh, and yes they happen to be ::gasp:: Lesbians - oh my gosh. So one in hundred stories this week features two mothers.

Get over yourselves - they aren't throwing in your face.

It's a good story. A compelling story. A well written story.

YOU are the ones with an agenda. YOU are the ones making it known that in your hart you condemn them. YOU are the ones making it political - not them.

sorry - 2011-05-13 18:40:38

Sorry Chris, I didn't mean you personally. I just meant that discomfort was the only reason I could think of for all the objections to the featured article. The other reasons cited didn't seem compelling to me.

But I will take your word for it that your particular complaint is that a mothers' day article should feature a mother who represents the closest approximation of an amalgamation of the primary demographic group of Capital readers. (If I goofed again and misconstrued you...please accept my apology again!)

If I got it right, then ok. I still don't agree. I guess I favor variety in humans, and enjoy how we come in so many types. But vive la diffrence, eh? Both in people and in opinions!

"other than your personal discomfort with a gay family"

I'll thank you not to put words in my mouth.

I never said, nor do I feel "discomfort" regarding gay families.

I'm not suggesting that there should not be human interest stories about gays, I simply question why it should be the main focus of the mothers day coverage.

thank you! - 2011-05-13 17:55:34

quote:"Because everyone won't get in bed with that way of life? "

Okay...I see. Thank you. That clarified things for me. Some people apparently were thinking that by featuring a gay parent family, the Capital was instructing them to "get in bed with that way of life" or become gay themselves!

No wonder you folks were upset! I would be upset too if someone were telling me that I should change my orientation. So forgive me. It wasn't bigotry at all, just a misunderstanding.

I think I can safely reassure everyone though, that this is not The Capital's intention. Of course I would have to check with the editorial staff to make sure I'm right, but I'm pretty sure. So don't worry, it's okay. I'm sure the Capital is okay with you staying straight. It's fine with me too.

I'm relieved that we've worked this out. : )

Mothers Day - 2011-05-13 11:10:51

I keep hearing the term "lifestyle" as if being homosexual was a thoughtful DECISION on the part of the individual who CHOSE to be "that way"! Human Sexuality is NOT a choice but the way GOD made that individual. No different than a person made with brown eyes vs blue eyes. Using God as your scapegoat to excuse your ignorance and bigotry is just not the right thing to do in a civilized society. The article about 2 loving mothers was refreshing and the writer should be proud of her accomplishments. Do not judge lest YOU be judged! I would be lost without my wonderfull wife of 37 years...and no one should be denied a relationship of love rgardless of their plumbing.

Ok, good question I guess... - 2011-05-13 11:03:02

Ok, if we accept your guesstimate that 95% of the Capital's readership is straight, and that the Capital should, therefore, only include straight families in featured articles, then can we fairly extrapolate to the following? (derived from "quick facts" on A.A. Co demographics...)

Do not feature seniorsThey make up only 11.7% of AA Co.
Do not feature black peopleThey are only 15.7%
NEVER feature items of Native American interestThey're only 0.4% for goodness sake!
Asians, 3.2%nah, forget them too.
Only 7.3% of readers would be interested in an article about languages other than English being spoken in homes. Don't do that.
Only 5% of households are below poverty level, so please...no articles about poor people. Thanks.
Etc...

My point is (I think) obvious. Is there some identifiable reason, other than your personal discomfort with a gay family, that you can cite to defend your objection to the article?

I don't think that people are suggesting that same sex couples be "hidden" from view. I think it is a valid question to ask if there is an agenda, since lesbian couples are such a small minority.

To put it in other terms, if the Capital's readership is 95% strait,(just guessing here) why the focus on a gay couple?
Thats not being bigoted, it's just asking a valid question.

@B Jackson - 2011-05-12 11:54:13

Contradiction between expressed intention and actual practice is what separates genuine proponents of a cause from people just looking for a reason to be p&%$#d-off.
Like the cretins (and yes, I'm name-calling now) from the westboro baptist church, if it wasn't one thing, it would be another.
Some people need attention, and go to outrageous lengths to garner it....both hetero & homo sexual. These folks allow very little room for differing opinions, and generally resort to labelling.
Whatever your religious beliefs, sexual preference, taste in clothing, food, art, music, body modification, or whatever, I firmly believe it is incumbent on all of us to allow room for everyone to chose, and for everyone to agree or disgree. A pet peeve of mine is when other people force their tastes on me and demand acceptance.
I spent a long time in the military where, having so little of it, our personal space was important. It has carried over.
I don't much care for extremism in anything, and I find the current trend toward "political correctness at all costs" just as distatseful. It is, in it's own way, just another form of extremism.
Some of these people simply have to allow others to "agree to disagree".

I confess... - 2011-05-11 18:20:48

...to being guilty of using the awkward word "not-bigoted" to refer to those defending the right of a gay couple to exist and even be featured in a news story.

I guess the term could be construed as unpleasant. But is it wrong? This article does not put gay marriage "in your face" any more than it would be "in your face" heterosexuality had a straight family been featured. I don't understand what's objectionable about it unless your stance is that such families either should not exist or, if they exist, should hide such that no one has to really ever know they exist.

Help me think of a nicer word for the notion that certain families should hide themselves from public view and I will endeavor to use it instead.

Meanwhile, I'm beginning to feel that downward thumbs, at least in the context of Capital comments, should be something of which I'm proud.

Anyway, Happy Fathers' day next folks. It's coming in June as I recall?

Like several others commenting below, my issue is not with the couple featured, but with the lack of a traditional couple being feature, or even a 'mr. mom' being featured as well. I'm not seeing much bigotry and hate in the comments, what I'm seeing is a rush to judgment from the more liberal posters here - not vice versa. Not sure featuring one lesbian couple was the right way to go here - perhaps an article on the changing face of families and being more inclusive - even including those dreaded, traditional husband/wife parents.

Thanks, and point taken about the writing.
All I'm trying to say here is, there is room for many ideas, lifestyles, and choices without making everyone else agree with the one each individual chooses. Further, choices can be made without demeaning those who feel differently.
The name-calling and labelling by SOME of the pro-gay posters here is contradictory to the tolerance they demanding.

it is apparent - 2011-05-11 14:17:57

from gleaning through the comments attached to this piece that the predominance of intolerance and vitriolic writing is from the supporters of the lifestyle practiced by the two ladies. Those in disagreement with their choice, and the gay lifestyle in general, have been labelled IN THESE POSTINGS, as rude, stingy, heartless, bigoted, narrow-minded, cowardly, pathetic, judgemental, and ignorant. No such derisions have been levelled at the gay community by a single poster. Disagreement has been voiced, but not denigration.
Proponents of the lifestyle described in this article would do well to follow the old cliche of "practice what you preach".
Don't decry intolerance while simultaneously engaging in it.

exposure, press & discussion - 2011-05-11 09:46:38

The gay community is still lacking fundamental rights that others take for granted. If articles like this one aren't printed, if people don't talk about their lives and if people are never in an environment where they can comprehend another's struggle, then there is no hope for tolerance, acceptance and change. People have to put faces and stories out there or others will never know. If everyone had shut up about the challenges that minorities & oppressed people face, I shudder to think what this world would be.

Glad to see the responses... - 2011-05-10 22:06:55

... I read the editor's letter today (Tuesday) and was so disappointed that anyone would post such a negative editorial in the paper. I felt badly for these two Moms... to be judged so harshly when you don't even know them, is quite sad. I was glad to see that the many of responses here are supportive of this article and the two Moms.

I loved the what Gisa Frank posted below ... "I feel very strongly that if we can be more understanding and accepting of our differences then the world becomes a much better place. I feel sad for anyone who doesn't welcome diversity - is it so difficult to accept that others are different to you that you have to try to belittle them and succeed only in showing yourself up? " ... well said!

I have two young children and I can only hope that this world becomes a much better place... for them and their children... and whatever sex they marry... as long as they are happy and sharing their happiness with others!

Sick And Tired - 2011-05-10 21:14:54

Sick And Tired ... for the record I never recall saying YOU threw it in anyones face. But the reality is that there are a certain segment of the gay population that does feel the need to express their sexuality to everyone ... whether you wanna hear it or not. Sleep with who you want ... love who you want ... I dont particularly care. Just dont infringe upon my right to not agree with it by constantly bringing it up. Not talking about you in particular for the record. I dont agree with being with a member of the same sex ... thats my right .... but I dont discriminate or pre-judge INDIVIDUALS that I personally meet who are gay. I will respect your right to be with someone of the same sex ... but please respect my right to teach my children that I do not think it is natural and our religion does not condone it. Its a two way street here.

Disgusted... - 2011-05-10 20:28:53

...by the comments of this community.

A mom is a mom is a mom. Who cares if that mom loves unicorns or popcorn with M&Ms or Jack Black or another woman? Her love, dedication, worries, struggles, sacrifices, and soul are the exact same the mom next door, down the street, or across the country.

What is wrong with you people?

These women pay taxes, have parents that want nothing but the best for them, get up in the middle of the night to tend fevers or change diapers, will have to figure out how to pay for college for these two boys, and try to figure out how to make time for work, home, life, kids, and each other just like the rest of us. What about that is worth these rude, heartless comments about being so "in your face" or "stomach turning"?

I fear you allow the anonymity of these forums to show your true cowardice.

Well, enjoy your negative, judgmental, pathetic derision and mild attempts at passing your bigotry off as some excusable reason for denying other decent human beings their rights.

I hope nothing but the best for these women.

If our community had more of THEM we would have a lot less hatred and scorn and more folks committed to promoting a community of equality, acceptance, and support.

tricky crowd - 2011-05-10 16:56:15

I continue to be a little amazed at how a benign, normal-seeming, functional family can be so polarizing to Annapolis area readers.

Luckily, I guess, I don't see the fear of homosexuality posted on the t-shirts of all my neighbors on a day to day basis, and equally fortunately, I don't have to wear all the thumbs-down my appreciation for the Capital's even-handedness is apt to generate.

Anyway...thanks Capital. Thanks other not-bigoted people who have posted. Thumbs-away folks.

Mama and Mommy - 2011-05-10 15:55:57

This is a fine informative article about how homosexual women who choose to partner and have children. I question why the editorial staff approved it first for the front page and second to be featured on Mother's day. Surely the staff writer Ms. Woodards could have found another subject person or persons to write about that would have been slightly more mainstream. How about the military wife/mom who holds down the home front while husband/dad is deployed to a war zone?? or an adoptive mom who is raising a child of lost or missing or uncaring parents??, or the mom who is dealing with a child suffering from cancer or other debilitating disease?? There are many human interest stories out there for consideration. Unfortunately, Ms. Woodards chose to focus on homosexuality. Hopefully Mr Marquardt will be more thoughtful when he reviews article ideas for the front page on Father's day front page!

Good Point - 2011-05-10 14:55:00

on the profile factor. I thought I just hadn't ran across another Monther's Day article. As far as homosexuality goes I guess I'm a little torn. I've always thought I was open mined on the gay issue but when kids get involved I tend to shut my mind down to that point of view. I know gay's can be warm and loving individuals (my god they ARE human) but I just can't wrap my small mind around same sex parenting. I've tried but I just can't, but who cares if I can't.

I don't care for excessive open displays of affection in public from anyone. I saw two men and they needed to just get a room. I would feel the same about a man and a woman as well. The display really sickened me mostly because it was not out of love it was putting the gay issue on display and shoving it in the public's face.

One thing for sure, the views on this run the full spectrum.

Why ONLY the homosexual profile for - 2011-05-10 13:57:51

I am a Christian, married, heterosexual male. That being said, I am very accepting of others' choices, whatever they may be, and have had some very good homosexual friends over the years.

I do have an issue with this story being the ONLY tribute to Mother's Day in the Capital on that day. That does make it seem that the paper is pushing an agenda. As a reader, I would have LOVED to have seen a profile on these ladies along with one of a more traditional mother, as well as a single mother and perhaps of a grandmother raising her grandchildren due to circumstances. Motherhood encompasses much more than genetics to be sure, but it is also certainly narrowly represented at best by the only profile this paper chose to run. That is what they meant in journalism class by "balanced" reporting Capital!

How exactly is a story about 2 moms for mother's day "throwing homosexuality in your face"? If someone asks you if you are married and have children and you are I assume you say "yes". I do to. Only difference is I am married to someone of the same-sex. Doesn't mean I am "throwing it in anyones face"

Well said, Mr Copperbottom. My point exactly.
I don't care if people date "same sex", platonically, or, for that matter, have an inter-species relationship.
Just have the class to keep it to yourself, as most people do. Don't throw it in my face and demand my acceptance.
Get over yourselves, gay folk. Homosexuality is not new, not rerstricted to humans, and, frankly, not that big a deal. You're not special.

Mother's Day - 2011-05-10 00:23:33

I think some people are getting upset because they are starting to see that there really isn't anything to fear about gay couples. Statistics have shown that lesbian couples raise happier kids than any other kind of couple. And I LOVE that the Capital Gazette ran this article!

You know, it's so easy to judge others and deny them their happiness when everything about your own life is exactly how you want it, but how would you like to be at your job with nosy parkers always asking personal questions about your marital status or dating situation, and you don't want to answer because you are afraid of losing your job? How would you like it if you couldn't bring pictures of your family to put on your desk while everyone else can - not because you are ashamed so much as the people you work with are too ignorant to see how they are breaking your heart everyday by expecting you to close off who you are so that THEY can be comfortable?

I'm tired of suffering so that other people can be comfortable. So that a few stingy people, who want to own marriage for themselves and not share that joy with others, can be under the false impression that we aren't human beings who want to have a family life the same as everyone else.

And don't you dare say that people can choose to live a heterosexual life if they want to. Until you can step into my skin and live my life, you know nothing about it. Some of you people make ME sick. How dare you presume to judge what should happen in MY life? I would never presume to hold such limitations on your lives, because to me it is pathetic to try to hold such power over so many of our citizens.

Pray all you want, gay people are not going to go away anytime soon!

Also, I agree with the other person who pointed out that hetero people almost always get the spotlight on everything. This is the FIRST time an article like this has been printed in the Capital Gazette, so yeah, get over yourself and let us have our day in the sun!

Wow, that is pretty far reaching don't you think? I know many military dads who do not know their sons due to deployment--are you suggesting that their wives are incapable of raising male children?

Are you suggesting that when a spouse dies, the living spouse is incapable of raising a child of the opposite sex?

@Jack - 2011-05-09 15:39:05

Are you referring to my post, or one of the few others on this page in support of the article? If you are referring to mine, I do not believe I called anyone names.
I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs, however when those beliefs are outwardly harmful to a group of people it is no longer benign. If I'm Christian and you are Jewish- we might not agree on everything, but we can agree we both have the right to practice our religion as we see fit so long as no one is harmed. If I marry a person of the same gender and you marry one of the opposite gender, why is there any difference? There is no harm done to you by me marrying my wife. I am still a productive member of society, I pay taxes, go to church, work.
This is my issue. If you don't agree with my lifestyle, then don't associate with me. but don't impinge on my rights to live the same life you get to live just because you don't agree with it.

how ironic & strange - 2011-05-09 15:25:31

that those who cry the loudest for tolerance and understanding from everyone are also those most vociferous in their condemnation of all who disagree with them. They are the first to resort to labelling, name-calling, and seem to be the least tolerant of differing points of view. It's almost as if "accept my way as the right way or you're a[n](insert denigerating label of choice)".
as long as there are people, there will be differing points of view. That's fine. Just don't keep shoving yours in my face & telling me I'm wrong. Don't be so self-righteous in defending your individual choices that you become guilty of the same transgressions you accuse others of committing.

I am a Christian... - 2011-05-09 15:11:36

...first and foremost, attending church every Sunday and active in the parish.
I am a Nurse- taking care of cancer patients during my career and now am back in school to obtain my Nurse Practitioner degree. I probably have taken care of some of you or your family.
I am a married lesbian woman who plans to one day soon have children. If any of you knew me, you would never once doubt my ability to raise a child with my wife to be a loving, open-minded, intelligent, and productive member of this society. It is sad how so many people in my own community can toss around such harsh words without considering or caring what the impact is.
I can assure you if I had any choice in the matter of who I loved, I wouldn't have chosen a life in which I am constantly hearing these such words. You didn't decide one day you were straight, just like I didn't decide one day I was gay. We just ARE.
I am confident and at peace with the fact that God made me in His image and loves me every day for who I am. I live my life in a Christian manner, loving my neighbor and taking care of the less fortunate. You can say I am less of a person because of who I love and that is your opinion, but it doesn't make it right. The two women in this article more than deserve to be recognized on Mother's Day just like all mothers do- without such harsh criticism because you don't agree with or understand their lifestyle. Props to The Capital for a great article!

..for showing some journalistic fortitude in the face of impending barbs & jabs from narrow-minded Sarah Palin types. Of course, it's her type of people that get voted out of office with regularity & impunity.

Why is that?

Well, excuse me for missing one. It so happens that Mr. Kay posted four comments in a row and I'd already removed two of them.
If you've got a problem with a comment use "Report Abuse" rather than throwing around accusations. That's what it's there for.

is the disregard of Nick to the double posting to get around the size of post limitation by Stephan Kay. I guess if you are not against what was written in the paper, it can be ignored?

Not warm and fuzzy - 2011-05-09 13:10:28

It makes me ill to think that innocent children are brought into abnormal situations and THEN the same-sex partners start thinking about how to "protect" those kids as an afterthought.

Solution: You are entitled to marry and have children with someone of the opposite sex. You have that same right as everyone else. You are not disenfranchised, except by virtue of your own insistent anomaly.

If what you really want is an alternative lifestyle (as opposed to public approbation of your sexual twist), why does it predictably seem to require emulating straights?

to Elena Andreu - 2011-05-09 12:51:52

Congratulations for speaking the thoughts most of us have as we are constantly inundated with "politically correct" propaganda from over-zealous activists and media sources afraid to voice an opinion contrary to the "prevailing winds" of PC.
I don't care what a person's religious beliefs are, what their lifestyle choices are, waht they read, what they watch, or what they eat.
Just keep it out of my face at every turn! Stop insisting that I accept it as good, (or even as a standard of normalcy). Stop telling me I'm wrong because I disagree with your choices.
Why does The Capital feel it necessary to show an aberrant "family" situation as a salute to Mother's Day? Because they, like the rest of mainstream media, are scared to death to incur the ire of the outliers who raise such a hue and cry when their choices are questioned.
I don't push my "traditional" lifestyle on people like these two...show me the same courtesy and don't tell me to accept yours.
Political correctness has become just as obnoxious as intolerance.
Elena is taking a beating on this, but I agree with her, and I'll join her in taking a few punches.

This one of the most important reasons Maryland needs marriage equality. Angela & Melanie's child deserves all the same legal protections for their family as any kid being raised by a heterosexual couple in Maryland.

Not about hate - 2011-05-09 12:45:52

Man/Woman,Woman/Man. Not woman/woman or man/man. What you do behind close doors is you're business. A woman can't teach a male child about being male and a man can't teach a female child about being female.

We now have in this society mothers giving birth to their daughters children. So that would mean the childs mother is the childs grandma and mother and that the daughter is the childs sister but mother. It's no wonder kids are confused. We also have test tube babies looking for their sperm donors. Mess, mess and more mess.

@Stephen - 2011-05-09 09:34:10

my case in point. you seem to paint all religious people as haters, saying our church is poisoning our minds. I'd agree with you about "monstrosities like that minister," but he absolutely does not represent true Christianity any more than Osama bin Laden represented true Islam. don't condemn all Christians because of the bigoted actions of extremists. I'm a proud conservative Christian, and my church does not spit out hatred, and neither do I.

don't label people as haters just because we disagree with a homosexual lifestyle. if gay people want me to respect their lives, then they need to respect my beliefs too.

btw, I completely agree with you on how heterosexuals have made a mess of the whole marriage thing.

Lesbian couple - 2011-05-09 02:47:50

Thanks to the Capital for this article. In a sense, every day is mothers and fathers days for str8 parents.

while gays are often subjected to all kinds of hate and discrimination. Point in fact, the black minister who at the gay marriage hearings last month who wore a shirt sayging

"Gays, Lesbians, and third sex

blah blah blah

worse then animals"

And he was black btw - the oppressed become the haters.

that shirt btw comes from one of the many hate goups in the NEast. People who think Jesus told us to hate thy neighbor as thyself, insttead of LOVE

I'll take my gay friends any day over monstrosities like that minister and the so many hate groups on the southern poverty law center list.

Shame on that man..

And congratulations to you on showing a gay couple with their children. People who cannot marry while str8 people, good and bad, are making a mockery of marriage with their 50% divorce rate.

Only in America. Last of the nato countries except Islamic turkey re allowing gay soldiers to serve openly

And rapidly becoming last in terms of the 35 westernized countries that give gays the right to marry under civil law or have equivalent civil unions.

Shame on us all.

BTW - I know many many gay people. Only two of them were not driven to the brink of suicide, and most of them had a friend who did commit suicide.

About 3000 a year in this country per a psychologist friends = that is a repeating 9-11 every year of our children.

I too am disappointed that the Capital chose to display a lesbian couple as their sole tribute to Mother's Day. I guess it's no longer socially acceptable to be a traditional, conservative, or religious mother. in your desire to bend over backwards to portray your acceptance of gay people, you've ignored those of us who became mothers the "traditional" way. or is "traditional" now a dirty word?

Wonderful article! - 2011-05-08 13:23:04

This is a wonderful article, I really enjoyed reading it. Please do more on this subject!
Like Elena I am also straight, I have gay family. I feel very strongly that if we can be more understanding and accepting of our differences then the world becomes a much better place. I feel sad for anyone who doesn't welcome diversity - is it so difficult to accept that others are different to you that you have to try to belittle them and succeed only in showing yourself up? That's so sad.
I am very happy that Angela and Melanie's story was chosen for Mother's Day. I wish them and all mothers everywhere a wonderful day!

Elena... - 2011-05-08 13:05:34

The Capital has been featuring the types of women you mention for years. There are constantly stories in the paper about the great things women from this area do albeit without mention of their sexual preferences. These women featured in this story are no less mothers than the next mother down the street. You are probably the type that wouldn't let your kids go play with the children in the neighborhood that had gay/lesbian parents for fear that your child may be "tainted". I am heterosexual, but trust me, the homosexual "agenda" is not swallowing this nation. My fellow heterosexuals seem to be doing a grand job of that already. Get over yourself.

Unbelievable! - 2011-05-08 11:03:23

You decide to feature a lesbian couple as a tribute to moms on Mother's Day???? Really????
Precious people I'm sure they are. Their lifestyle is not. If you think you can change the mind of the people by repeatedly posting & reporting this as an acceptable way of life...you are sadly mistaken. I do not, would not, and could not ever hate a person for what they choose to do, but I will oppose with passion when the world begins to call good, evil and evil good. Of all the examples of motherhood available in this city, you couldn't or wouldn't find a beautiful example of a mother who has an inspiring story of a life committed to her family, her neighborhood or her community, one who alongside her husband, has championed a cause, or withstood the mounting wave of opposition tearing at the epicenter of our families & breaking them apart? You couldn't find one single mother that pours out her heart to the weak or the poor or the rejected? A mother that has chosen to be an answer to a child's prayer for adoption?
I picked up the paper this morning from my front yard, and my heart sank & got sick with disbelief...2 lesbian women are my featured role models on the front page of my city newspaper...my first thought? Cancel my subscription. My second thought? Fall on my knees and say, "God, what can I do to keep this homosexual agenda from swallowing up our nation?"
