Sports comment: Competition cuts deep at Brigade BoxingPublished 02/28/04
For all the glory that comes with being a Brigade Boxing Tournament champion, there is a difficult aspect to competing in the always-exciting event, even for the winner. Amir Shareef entered last night's 175-pound championship bout as the heavy favorite over classmate Chris Lonero. It would be his third Brigade Boxing championship, putting him into elite company through the history of the tournament that each year lifts the spirit of almost every midshipman at the academy. Shareef and Lonero came to Annapolis from different cultures, from opposite ends of the country - Shareef from Brooklyn, N.Y., Lonero from San Jose, Calif....
