Sports Comment: Niumatalolo right choice for continuityPublished 12/10/07
It's a tradition for the head coach of Navy football to speak at the annual membership cocktail party held by the Touchdown Club of Annapolis in advance of the Army-Navy game. Due to a scheduling conflict, Paul Johnson could not make the event in 2005.
Assistant head coach Ken Niumatalolo filled in for Johnson and spoke confidently and eloquently as he discussed the season to date and the upcoming showdown with Army. Naval Academy athletic director Chet Gladchuk was in attendance that night and it may have been the moment when he realized Niumatalolo had what it took to be a head coach.
