Kaleo Kina comes from a close-knit family and has an extremely tight bond with his mother. As a senior at Trevor Browne High in Phoenix, Ariz., Kina looked for a college that was close to home. Northern Arizona, University of California-San Diego and Santa Clara offered basketball scholarships, which fit Kina's goal of staying within driving distance. However, Wanda Watts had other thoughts and told her son to accept the challenge of attending the Naval Academy.
