Cracked bone in kneecap might not sideline DobbsPublished 10/22/09
Navy starting quarterback Ricky Dobbs still hopes to play in Saturday's Homecoming contest against Wake Forest despite learning yesterday that he has a cracked bone in his kneecap. Naval Academy athletics beat writer Bill Wagner and host Dave Broughton, both of The Capital sports department, take a look at the SMU game on Saturday, October 17 in this October 21 edition. They also discuss this Saturdays game against Wake Forest.
Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo received the report from a magnetic resonance imagery examination yesterday afternoon and it revealed that Dobbs did not have any tendon or cartilage damage in his right knee, which was good news. However, doctors discovered a small bone crack that was determined to have occurred in the past. Dobbs said he suffered the injury in high school and the hit he absorbed on the second play of the game against SMU...

Oh great here comes another Homecoming blow-out!
Was piling it up vs Rice really worth it for this kid?
They could have had Procter in there before the half and probably avoided this disaster.
There go the coaches votes and any Top 25 aspirations and another ND loss for those that care about these things.
But we got the CIC and Bowl game.

I hope Dobbs doesn't risk his career trying to be a football "hero" this week. I think Proctor is a fine qb, but playing in a 63 point game (Rice) is one thing, starting a game is another.
Double risk perhaps.
