Navy quarterback Ricky Dobbs did not practice yesterday and will not play against Wake Forest tomorrow, sports information director Scott Strasemeier said. Sophomore Kriss Proctor will make his first career start in place of Dobbs, who has a cracked bone in his right knee.
Naval Academy athletics beat writer Bill Wagner and host Dave Broughton, both of The Capital sports department, take a look at the SMU game on Saturday, October 17 in this October 21 edition. They also discuss this Saturdays game against Wake Forest.
"Proctor is ready to go and so are we," Niumatalolo told The Capital via text message last night.
Proctor has made one varsity appearance in his brief career, playing the final 24 minutes against Rice and rushing for 82 yards and three touchdowns on 14 careers. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound California native displayed a good grasp of the triple-option offense in terms making the reads and distributing the ball.
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous but I can't let that affect the way I play. I have confidence in everybody around me and I think they have confidence in me as well," Proctor said this week when asked about the prospect of starting.
Dobbs said he has "100 percent confidence" in Proctor, who played in a triple-option offense at Big Bear High.
