Monday Night Football celebrated its inaugural season, along with the United States Naval Academy's Club Hockey program.
Since the first puck dropped at historic Dahlgren Hall, the birthplace of Navy hockey, 16 teams have entered the National Hockey League, including the Washington Capitals in 1974. Of those 16 teams, nine different expansion teams have won a total of 19 Stanley Cups, with the Edmonton Oilers, who joined the NHL in 1979, leading the way with five championships.
