Members of the Naval Academy's freshman class will get a chance to meet their sponsors for the first time on Sunday, and the sponsors have been attending orientation sessions lately to get ready.
First-time sponsors David and Adele Feild, of Lutherville, attended Saturday's session, as did Crofton resident retired Lt. Cmdr. Bob Turman, who has been sponsoring mids for 11 years.
Sponsors are area volunteers who open their homes to midshipmen. The Feilds said they are getting involved because of their daughter, Miriam, a freshman or plebe. They figure she'll be bringing friends over to hang out in the years to come.
