Amidst a lot of giggling, hugging and kissing and teasing, the Naval Academy's freshmen, or plebes, yesterday greeted their parents and siblings for the first time since Induction Day on June 27.

Midshipmen Alexander Koller, left, of Lewisburg, Ky., and Ethan Harvey, of Edgewater, do push-ups during the dawn physical exercise session Monday at the Naval Academy. During the summer, each plebe does about 3,000 sit-ups and 2,900 push-ups.
"He looks great! And his voice sounds really different - it's deeper, it's a lot lower. And he's actually standing different!" Leah Travers, 13, of Severn, said upon seeing her brother, Midshipman 4th Class Joseph Travers.
Midshipman Travers described Plebe Summer as "fun." "It is hard because you have so much to do," he said, "but when you look back on the whole summer, it is fun." Except for a few hours of personal time each...
