Midshipman Michelle DeGrothy's summer training with the Naval Academy may have turned into a lifesaving mission.
Midshipman DeGrothy was in Hawaii for fleet summer training when she was approached about donating to the National Bone Marrow Program. She agreed and they swabbed the inside of her mouth and placed the results in the registry.
Time went by and she forgot about it. Nearly two years later she received a phone call informing her that her bone marrow could help someone.
