The rusty, sagging, chain-link fence that surrounded part of the Naval Academy - from the baseball stadium on King George Street, up to Route 450 and down to the Severn River - is gone, replaced by a shiny new, black ornamental fence.

In all, the academy is installing about 3,900 feet, or nearly three-quarters of a mile, of the 8-foot tall steel fence, at a cost of slightly more than $773,000. The next step in the project is to build a brick Naval Academy sign at Route 450 and King George Street.
