Cankerworms plague Lake Shore residents

Many of the 70-foot-tall oak trees along the side of Eagle Hill Road in Pasadena look like they're dying, with only a few bare branches and some tiny, pale green leaves.

In one yard, what used to be a thick veil of foliage between the driveway and the shore of the Magothy River is now a patchy stretch of forest from which a constant dripping sound emanates.

It's not raining, but something is falling from the tops of the trees.

"The droppings are an aggravation, but I know what they're doing," said Fred Nilsen, a 50-year resident of Lake Shore. "They're killing the trees."
