That children's book lesson about sheer gumption mirrors the efforts of Navy and civilian volunteers helping kids learn to read at Tyler Heights Elementary School.
Staffers from the Naval Federal Credit Union and the Navy Support Activity Station have taken the school under their wing, pitching in with biweekly reading visits, donations of loads and loads of books, school uniforms and even gold dollar coins for homework achievement.
