Guitar hero gets new gear : Pasadena man donates ax to Battle of the Bands champion

Don Lawrence practices what he preaches and now Paul Nelson can practice the guitar again.

By Joshua McKerrow — The Capital South River High School student Paul Nelson, who won best guitarist honors at the Battle of the Bands, plays an Ibanez Prestige RGA, donated to him by Don Lawrence of Pasadena. Mr. Lawrence gave Mr. Nelson the guitar after reading that Mr. Nelson’s only guitar was stolen Feb. 15.

Mr. Lawrence, musician for the El Bethel Community Church in Pasadena, donated an Ibanez Prestige RGA guitar to Mr. Nelson, the reigning Battle of the Bands six-string champion, after hearing the teen's beloved guitar was stolen.

Just a month after taking best guitar performance at the 10th annual Battle of the Bands, South River High School student Paul Nelson's lone guitar, a sunburst ESP H 1000 Deluxe, which is no longer in production, was stolen from his car while he visited friends on Feb. 15.
