The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Region of the American Red Cross seeks blood donors, as well as communities, businesses or organizations that are willing to host a blood drive.
The Red Cross has reported low donation rates throughout the area.
Generally, it maintains a three- to five-day blood supply to meet the needs of local patients. But now, there is only one day's worth of type O blood - the universal donor.
