Kids from the shore, Costa Rica connect online, then in person

Maryland's Eastern Shore and the town of Atenas in the mountains of Costa Rica are more than 2,000 miles apart.

BOTTOM: Students from Kennard Elementary School in Centreville and from Escuela Colina Azul in Costa Rica paddle kayaks and look for birds at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center in Grasonville. The center connected the schools using Internet conferencing software donated by Atlantic Broadband. Now the kids are getting a chance to learn together in person.

But kids from the two regions are bonding over a shared interest of the environment, ospreys and the universal childhood loves of pizza and soccer.

The Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center in Grasonville has been the matchmaker between Kennard Elementary in Centreville and Escuela Colina Azul in Costa Rica.
