Man, 38, dies in fall from windowCROFTON - A 38-year-old man died yesterday after he fell out of a second-story window of a townhouse. At 4:20 p.m. county firefighters were called to the 2500 block of Vineyard Lane in Crofton. When they arrived they found the unidentified man lying unconscious on a cement, basement-level patio. He was pronounced dead at the scene. "We believe he fell from inside the house," said Division Chief Michael Cox, a county Fire Department spokesman. "The circumstances surrounding this incident are unclear at this time." Vineyard Lane has only townhouses. Police did not identify the man this morning. They said it was not a suspicious death, but they are still investigating. Body recovered in South RiverEDGEWATER - Maryland Natural Resources Police last night recovered the body of a Baltimore man who has been missing since Sunday. Authorities recovered the body of Clinton Mathew Wallace, 39, at about 6:50 p.m. from the South River near Mayo Beach Park in Edgewater. The body was found during a surface search of the area. Police said Wallace went missing after he jumped from a boat into the water to cool off. His body will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The incident is under investigation. $41M galley update at Naval AcademyANNAPOLIS - A north county company has received a $41 million contract to renovate the Naval Academy's kitchen areas. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command announced Monday that the contract has been awarded to Barton Marlow Co. of Linthicum Heights. The work is being funded by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Academy officials said the work is scheduled to begin immediately and should be done by October 2011. They said the current kitchen galley and food-preparation infrastructure is dated and becoming harder to maintain and operate. School board panel to fill seat tonightArnold - The School Board Nominating Commission is moving tonight to fill a school board vacancy, despite a request to delay the process. Commission members must make recommendations to the governor on who should replace Tricia Johnson, who left the board to replace Ed Reilly on the County Council. Commissioner Richard Kovelant last night asked for a week's delay in order to talk to members of the school administrators' union, which he represents. He said rushing "puts in jeopardy our ability to represent our constituents." Some commissioners said they are worried about leaving the seat open any longer. Others said they'd have trouble attending a later meeting, and Kovelant withdrew his motion. Tonight the commission will hear public testimony and vote on the four candidates - Michael Leahy, Andrew Pruski, Paul Rudolph and Janet Pogar. The names will be sent to the governor, who must then pick one. The hearing will start at 8 p.m. in Room 219 of the Cade building on Anne Arundel Community College's Arnold campus.
