As a young corporal in the 672nd Amphibious Tractor Battalion in World War II, Titus was part of the contingent that freed more than 2,000 civilians trapped in the Los Banos Civilian Internment Camp in the Philippines.
The Pasadena resident, now 85, hit his head during the raid and received a Purple Heart for his services. He got out of the military, went to college and started a family, all the while keeping in touch with other Los Banos veterans through reunions held every other year.
