Military Notes

Marine 2nd Lt. Daniel L. Jewett, son of Navy Captain and Mrs. Charles Jewett of Severna Park, graduated with distinction from the Naval Academy with the Class of 2009.

Jewett served as the 20th company commander, leading his company to win the Brigade Color Company honors. In the spring, he held the position of brigade executive officer.

He was awarded the Chief of Naval Operations Distinguished Midshipmen Graduate Award, the Dr. Karel Montor Leadership and Ethics Award and a Marine Corps officer's sword in recognition of his leadership of the 20th company.

Jewett is a 2004 graduate of Severna Park High School. He commissioned into the Marine Corps and is currently stationed in Quantico, Va.

Army Reserve Spec. Paul J. Posner has been mobilized and activated for deployment overseas to a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Posner, an intelligence analyst, is normally assigned to the 323rd Military Intelligence Battalion on Fort George G. Meade. He is the son of Elizabeth D. Posner of Chester and husband of Allison Posner.

Army Cadet Matthew Clayton Montgomery, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Montgomery of Edgewater, completed Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy.

Montgomery entered West Point on June 29 and has successfully completed six weeks of basic training.

Montgomery began classes at West Point Aug. 17. He graduated from South River High School.

Navy Reserve Fireman Apprentice Keith T. Hickey Jr., son of Pattrina H. Coates of Odenton and Keith T. Hickey Sr. of Washington, N.C.

Navy Seaman Recruit Robert O. Dawson, son of Elizabeth D. and Robert O. Dawson of Crofton. He graduated from Arundel High School in 2009.

Navy Seaman Recruit Andrew M. McKay, son of Diane C. McKay of Huntingtown and Phillip K. McKay of Stevensville.

Navy Seaman Jennifer L. Cunningham, daughter of Marie C. Williams of Stevensville.

Navy Seaman Recruit Andrew C. Bennett, grandson of Patricia G. Owens of Severna Park.
