Patrons pay respects to Galan at Les Folies Brasserie

For nearly four hours on a normally quiet Saturday afternoon, the doors swung open at Les Folies Brasserie in Parole for more than 200 patrons and friends who came to fondly remember chef and co-owner Jean-Claude Galan.

He died Nov. 3, at 64, from complications after a stroke, 10 years after partnering with his friend, chef Alain Matrat, to open the French restaurant on Riva Road.

The two had come to the United States from France in 1965 and worked separately at different upscale restaurants and resorts. They joined forces on and off at such well-known places as the Jockey Club at the Fairfax Hotel in Washington,...
