The Chesapeake High varsity cheerleading squad got off to a winning start when they took the mat at Saturday's regional state competition, flying through the air in a series of back flips set to high-energy pop music.

The Chesapeake High School cheerleaders won their fourth state title in a row at the Maryland High School Cheerleading Association's regional state competition.
A crowd of fans from Pasadena, who had traveled more than an hour to North Point High School in Waldorf to watch the team compete, cheered loudly. Then all was quiet.
Allie Brannock was doubled over in pain on one side of the mat, propped up by her coaches and a few of the judges. The senior apparently tore her ACL, a ligament in her knee.
