History trumps shopping

Some people were shopping yesterday, while others were fixing turkey sandwiches with leftovers.

Eleanor Anderson was stirring fresh cranberry sauce over a hot fire in a hearth and showing little ones how to crush sunflower seeds with a stone.

Anderson, a retired teacher from Davidsonville, was volunteering at Historic London Town and Gardens in Edgewater, which celebrated American Indian Heritage Day with a program on Native American cooking.

As of last year, the day after Thanksgiving has been designated an official state holiday to honor Native Americans in Maryland.
