Kidney donation to save lives of four strangers

While most Christmas revelers are preparing to hand loved ones the latest electronic gadget or fashion accessory, Kent County resident Court Blatchford has given the gift of life.

Court Blatchford of Millington donated a kidney to a stranger Tuesday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Inspired by a story about a young woman in need of a transplant he read in The Capital, Blatchford's donation will help save four other lives through a new program that helps pair donors and recipients.
The modest, soft-spoken advertising executive spent Monday working in his Annapolis office even though 24 hours later he would be donating a kidney to a stranger.
Now he's resting comfortably after a successful surgery, coping with some post-operative soreness. He should be home for Christmas.
"I just saw this as a great opportunity to save a life," he said.
