After a couple years there studying psychology, he said he wanted to do something more with himself. Eager to get life going, he joined the Army in 2006.
On Nov. 12, when now Cpl. Flynn of Arnold stepped from a vehicle while on patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan, an improvised-explosive device, or IED, exploded. Quick action by his squad mates, who placed multiple tourniquets on his wounded limbs, likely saved his life and surely saved his shrapnel-damaged legs.
