It didn't take long that year for the spiraling financial situation to hit home, literally. In January 2008, the housing market bottomed out and foreclosure filings shot up.
Things just kept getting worse as 2008 wore on, and even though there are currently signs that the economy is improving, lots of people and businesses remain on shaky financial ground as the new year begins.
