Snow keeps courthouse closed, which keeps 34 in jail

While many county residents felt trapped in prison during the past week's blizzards, almost three dozen people were quite literally trapped in the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Parole - unable to ask judges to lower their bail while courts were closed.

In deference to their plight yesterday - and the fact the courts will be closed again Monday for Presidents Day - District Court Judge John P. McKenna organized a special bail review hearing in Annapolis.

Judge Jonas D. Legum heard 34 cases yesterday afternoon inside the locked courthouse on Rowe Boulevard, clearing the way for about 22 people to be released pending...
