She has a barely discernible accent that she picked up about 40 years ago in Cuba, where she was born and spent the first 27 years of her life.
But from "the moment we got here, we felt at home," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez loves America.
"This is the best country in the world," she said.
More than anything, the Rodriguezes want to give back to the country that has done so much for them by providing a safe haven for their family.

Mr. Anonsen,
Respectfully, all taxpayers ( the vast majority of us) have no choice in the matter , we are all compelled to 'support our troops' ( though what that means exactly is unclear) through the payment of our taxes.
The boys and woman that make up our 'troops' are paid professionals as are those of us that pay the majority of federal tax. It consideration of our monetary support, they take well known risks executing their duty to us.
It is a pleasant , feel good story my friend and a great way for ms. rodriguez to express her gratitude. Good for her.
But let us not lose sight of the fact that we must demand our government as representatives of We the People do whatever it takes to take care of the medical needs of the wounded military professionals. We pour massive amounts of this country's resources into the military and we should have a say in how it is spent!!! I say, support our troops by supporting all the American people , and supplying all of us , especially the suffering with health care. As a strong , healthy country we can continue to grow , continue to support our troops with billions of our tax dollars and do so knowing we are the Greatest Country on the globe.

Great story! Great idea! I have 2 nephews in the Marines, one in Afghanistan. I wasn't aware of the Semper Fi Fund. We all need to support our troops in the field and when they return home. What a great way to do it
Thank you!
