EDGEWATER - State police said Joseph Luther Kelly III of Annapolis was the pilot killed in a plane crash near Lee Airport Saturday afternoon.
Kelly, 53, was the only person aboard the Beechcraft Bonanza P35, state police said.
The single-engine plane struck a tree about a mile away from Lee Airport at 4:20 p.m., about 20 minutes after takeoff.
Airport Manager Van Lee said on Saturday the plane suddenly banked to the right and hit some trees before crashing. Witnesses said the plane and tree caught fire after the impact.
