Although the signatures, combined with 13,000 validated by the county Board of Elections last month, would appear to put the Stop Slots at Arundel Mills mall effort over the top, the latest names have yet to be checked. The drive also faces a court challenge from the casino developer.

"We feel extremely confident that we're going to go way, way over the required amount," said Ron Sander of Severna Park, a volunteer who said he...

Good News - 2010-03-11 02:51:22

I signed the petition for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is I disagree with the hired gun's assertions that the traffic impact would be insignificant and the infrastructure was already adequate; or, if it wasn't, that it would generate sufficient revenues to correct it. Well, all but the most politically naive individual knows what that really means: When donkeys fly, or the next administration denies responsibility for any mistakes or promises, whichever comes first!

I, too, received a phone call, apparently attempting to challenge my signature.

Let's have the referendum and put the issue to rest for the voters; I'll accept the will of my fellow citizens.

Folks - 2010-03-08 14:36:28

There was nothing in the bill that you voted for that implied the slots would go to the tracks. That was an assumption on your part.

Put em at the track - 2010-03-08 14:17:29

Don't you just hate it when you think you're voting to put slots at the track... Then the County Council decide they want to put them at a shopping mall instead... Do kids pay slots???

too late NO voters - 2010-03-06 14:10:43

I voted against slots because I did not like the idea of the developers and out of town businesses controlling my neighbors. Those of you that voted for slots got what you deserved and this is too little too late.

petition - 2010-03-06 12:56:47

I signed this petition because I want the slots to go to the race track where they belong! I would never have voted in favor of the slots if we had been told they were going to go to a Mall! I understand the revenue needs of this County but we need to think about the FUTURE of this County and not just the immediate needs. You go guys good job getting those signatures and I would be that in November that we vote the Mall slots down!!!

Perspective - 2010-03-06 10:52:25

Keep in mind, the only reason the Maryland Jockey Club has a dog in this fight is because they represent the interest of Laurel Racetrack. Slots (or even the promise of slots) going to the track will increase the value of the property - which is in the market for a buyer.

Referendum - 2010-03-06 09:48:19

This seems like positive news. Let us have our vote in November and see what the will of the people really is.
