The U.S. Postal Service said earlier this month it is facing a $238 billion shortfall over the next decade if the mail service doesn't drastically reduce its costs.

The elimination of six-day-a-week delivery would be a drastic departure in the postal service's operations.

For Eastport postal service carrier Heather Armstrong, the plan would finally allow her to chill on the weekends, but she said she knows it will be hard for older residents along her route to not have the mailman stop by Saturdays.

In today's day and age of electronic communications, Saturday mail service, does appear to be a service that can be stopped, without impacting us too much.

Saturday delivery, I don't need it, this is an attempt to reduce cost, so why not. I have always thought Saturday service was a waste of someones money (mine and yours), the only issue I would have is if we saw a new increase in stamps in the near future after these cuts.

No big deal - 2010-03-20 11:58:02

They don't give 6 days service in 20764 anyway. The Postman DID drive by but didn't pick up my mail.
They deliver 4 days a week at best down here, never deliver packages, regularly mis-deliver mail to the wrong box etc.
The local Post Office says there is nothing they can do about it because the deliverers are contract workers.

I must be wrong though because our 'Messiah in Chief' said the Postal Service is "A government program that works."
