After winning $2 million in the Powerball jackpot, the Glen Burnie couple plan to quit their jobs and move to Ocean City permanently, fulfilling a longtime dream.

"It's our time now. We've lived for everyone else," Susi, 43, said a day after learning that she and her husband had hit it big.

Oh and BTW... - 2010-06-25 13:04:22

I don't play any scratch offs or keno, because, even if I would win, it would probably not be enough to be a life changing event.

Supporting the state - 2010-06-25 12:59:50

Yes, but roughly, only half of what you pay into buying lottery tickets. The rest goes to the winners at various levels. So, half of what you pay in benefits you locally in some way. The other half goes, in some cases, to making someone's dreams come true. If you purchase one Mega millions ticket and one Powerball ticket for each drawing, that amounts to $208 per year, to have even a slim chance to be that winner. Without that purchase you can't even dream about it.

Compare that $208 to what you pay in state income taxes, sales taxes, real estate taxes, etc. per year. And for that you don't even get to dream of better things to come or get to help someone else's dream come true.

never play the lottery - 2010-06-23 19:46:09

The lottery supports the State and the odds are completely rigged against you. If you want to gamble and have a chance, play card games online like I do.

This is Why - 2010-06-23 00:44:34

I hardly ever play the lottery.

Maybe a scratch off ticket here and there when I have the extra $2 in my pocket.

The most I've ever won is $125 on a scratch off and $110 on Keno.

I'm happy for these folks though and agree with the others about privacy because these days "un0seen" relatives come out of the wood work.

Me personally if I had 1.3 million I'd buy a condo and save the rest.

Congrats Folks !

This is why... - 2010-06-22 20:17:07

... I buy small amounts of tickets myself, knowing the chances are that I will never win. Someone does win from time to time and it makes me feel good when good people get lucky and realize their dreams.

These stories also make me happy, whether or not $1.3 million goes very far these days. I'm sure you will do whatever it takes to realize and safeguard your dream(s), stop working quite so hard, and take care of each other. Remember, this is for YOU! Many more blessings to you both!

Congratulations - 2010-06-22 09:26:47

I'm happy for you, but change your phone number and retain an attorney to protect yourselves from the onslaught of 'begging' and scams that are, unfortunately, sure to follow your good fortune. Be careful, and enjoy every penny!

curse of the lottery - 2010-06-22 07:54:10

I wish you well, but, keep in mind that after taxes and buying your dream home, you aren't going to have much left. And don't forget about your greedy 'friends' and relatives who will be at your door expecting a handout. The curse of the lottery is real. I hope you are prepared.
