DEMOCRATS: State Comptroller William Donald Schaefer may be facing his toughest political contest yet in his bid for re-election. He is opposed in the primary by Peter Franchot, a bright and aggressive Montgomery County delegate, and Anne Arundel County Executive Janet Owens, seeking her first state office.
Eight years ago, Mr. Schaefer filled the big shoes of the late Louis Goldstein and maintained conservative investing principles that kept the state from financial harm. For that, we applaud him.
