Several months ago I paddled into dangerous waters by suggesting that our comic strips are long overdue for an overhaul. I even went so far as to ask whether “Pearls Before Swine” — a strip about a pig and a rat — would be more up-to-date than “Cathy,” formerly a strip on the frustrations of being single and female, but now about a newly married woman who still has the same hang-ups.
