Instead of reading the newspaper comic pages, I sometimes turn to the real estate section for a good laugh.
There I'm sure to find a happy, bubbly world of homes for sale. In this perpetually optimistic world there are no shacks or hovels, only "fixer-uppers" and "handyman specials." Like the children of mythical Lake Wobegon, all the houses are above average.
I get the heartiest guffaw, however, from the advertisements for waterfront property. If you've lived long enough in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, you know what I'm talking about. A house on a creek or a river is the Holy Grail around here, and the ads reflect...
