No one ever thought that the Volvo Ocean Race would make Annapolis and Baltimore permanent stops for its around-the-world sailing event. So no one here seemed surprised when word got out this week that the next race's East Coast stop in May 2009 will be in Boston instead.
Annapolis should be very proud that it capably hosted this spectacle three times. By all accounts, the participants found it more hospitable than larger port cities with bigger marketing campaigns.
