Editor's desk:We’re adjusting to changing times and a changing market

Published 10/28/07

In the past weeks I have fielded several calls from people wondering about the health of this newspaper. They had read a story (The Capital, Oct. 2) about voluntary buyouts being offered to 50 longtime employees and assumed the end was near.

At the risk of disappointing our detractors, the news of our demise is greatly exaggerated.

This newspaper, like others, is going through an adjustment that reflects the reality of declining revenue in the

media industries. We’re still financially strong — and still well read. The newspaper industry reached its zenith in the 1980s, when circulation was climbing and department...

Annapolis Capital biz - 2007-10-31 00:17:15

Tom M:

The only reason we don't subscribe to the capital is the pile of paper we'd have to trash every week.

If you could put the Capital up on a subscription website at a reasonable price - I'd say 1/2 the home delivered paper version, we'd subscribe in a minute. Certainly want all the letters to the editor, etc in a format conducive to the PC. We get some of the material for free now, but a well done website better organized would be a delight. This website could be more of a relatively recent archive. I don't know the economics of your biz, but most you obviously have all the daily material in elec. form, including the advertisements. We live in front of the PC, join us with an elec. version more consistent with the paper.
