Our Say: As more Marylanders pay attention, slots support dropsPublished 09/11/08
There may not be much suspense about how this state is going to vote in the presidential contest, but a close race is shaping up on a ballot item that will have a huge impact on Maryland's future. At least that's the conclusion you can draw from the latest poll by Gonzales Research and Market Strategies, conducted between Aug. 29 and Sept. 5. Baltimore city and the Washington, D.C., suburbs make Maryland an ultra-reliable Democratic bastion that hasn't given a majority for a Republican presidential candidate in 20 years - since 1988, when the elder George Bush beat Michael Dukakis.
