Editor's Desk: Prejudiced letters not excludedPublished 10/05/08
One of the highlights of my day is reading letters to the editor — not the polished ones that appear in the newspaper, but the raw and unedited versions that land on my desk. Before you read them, we touch up grammar, fix obvious factual mistakes, break up run-on sentences and fill in crucial information writers omitted - which saves letter writers from embarrassment but is not always appreciated. A devilish side of me wants to publish all letters, regardless of errors or taste, because their lapses and crude English often mirror the absurdity of their opinions.
