With the economy stalled and all governments supposedly scraping for every penny, it might help if state agencies tried hard to collect what is legally owed. That includes what is owed by deadbeat dads. When these men don't pay their court-ordered support payments, it ultimately puts more of a load on social service agencies.
Which brings us to an audit issued last week by the Department of Legislative Services, which found that Maryland's child support enforcement agency often doesn't even manage to deduct overdue payments from state lottery winnings.
The audit found that the agency didn't report more than 600...

Angry! - 2008-10-22 08:49:46
Deadbeat DAD'S??? What about deadbeat MOTHER'S??? My ex is over $5,000 behind in child support, and for the past several years done everything she can to avoid paying. The State REFUSED to do any more than send letters asking her to pay. They refused to rescind her "professional" State issued license. They refused to have her picked up for non-support. Now the State has consolidated their call center to one in Baltimore City where a call goes on perpetual hold. The CSE in this State is a joke!
Meanwhile, fathers such as myself do the things necessary to nurture and raise the kids, hold down a job, keep up the house, and try to make as normal a life for the kids as possible. Then we're subjected to slanted articles such as this one that don't take into account the many, many deadbeat mothers. Seriously. The editor must have been sleeping on this one.

Dads? - 2008-10-21 18:05:59
Why does the Capital say just 'Dads' not Parents? My husband's Ex owes him in excess of $100,000.00 and the State wouldn't do a thing. One Child Support worker even asked him, "Why don't you leave her alone, she probably doesn't have a pot to P in?" Needless to say the Ex never sent a single penny of Court Ordered support. A friend of his had both children living with him but he STILL had to pay the Ex support! To get it back, Child Support said "Sue her in Court, it's not our job." Sad state of affairs for Men these days. And the Capital saying Deadbeat Dads instead of Parents owing Child Support is just plain one sided and irresponsible.
