Reilly left his position last week to fill a state Senate vacancy left by Republican Janet Greenip. He was a strong proponent of zoning legislation that will allow slot machines in the western part of the county. Reilly's vote was crucial to slots because the council is divided on the issue. Without him, there are two council members supporting the zoning change, two against and two undecided. Four votes are needed for the measure to pass.
The council has been dragging its feet for months on deciding this...

take slots out of the equation - 2009-06-30 11:44:06
The council should just vote on the slots zoning and take slots out of the replacement equation. The slots are just distracting the council from dealing with trying to find adequate funding for the police, schools and libraries.

get on with it - 2009-06-30 11:18:30
I agree with Harry, the council is ineffective and the entire council will pay for their lack of leadership in their future respective elections. Vote now Councilmember Jones this is your district show some leadership with the other members and force a vote sooner than later, we know the game and they are waiting on you. This will be known as the council that launched a thousand indecisions!

Let the chips fall. - 2009-06-24 17:04:53
It's unfortunate our State's budget, schools, and health care have been placed on spinning wheel of gambling, but it was approved by voters. The parameter of acceptable locations was set by government board. Anne Arundel County council members are not fulfilling their responsibility. They hold office to make these decisions. The proposed location in a commercial zone. Mr. Reilly's unwillingness to vote and passing the burden on to the next council member was unacceptable and will cost him votes. A do nothing government, is worth exactly that, nothing. Vote and let the chips fall.

Stop the Spin - 2009-06-24 11:18:55
Only 16% of the entire county, per a March 2009 scientific poll conducted by John Leopold's AACC, want slots at Arundel Mills. However, I agree slots should not be a litmus test for the seat.
