Our Say: Watermen's woes yet another reason for bay cleanup

Published 09/21/09

When a fishery declines, those who relied on it for their livelihood are hit hard. That may be obvious but, when it comes to the Chesapeake Bay, the point can use some underlining. Since DNR does not like to do anything that upsets watermen (such as limiting harvest effort)one wonders why they should be absolved from blame on that front. Can we then agree that it is bad idea for DNR to require MWA approval before it implements policies? Otherwise, watermen are partners in this failure.
