TRANSPORTATION SAFETY - A coalition of transportation groups has ranked Maryland second to last in allocating federal money for improved safety measures for pedestrians and bicyclists. The group - Surface Transportation Policy Partnership and Transportation - links the shortfall to the state's above average pedestrian fatality rate. Money doesn't solve everything, but it seems to us that Maryland lacks bike lanes, sidewalks and pedestrian walkways embraced by cities in other states.
