Ellie Light thinks President Barack Obama is getting a bad rap, so she wrote a letter to the editor - not just her local newspaper, but many newspapers. And Light changed her address to cities within the circulation area of each paper to increase the odds of it being published. Now there are questions about where she actually lives, her name - and even whether she is female.
Light's letters, which say Obama "can't just wave a magic wand and fix everything," provided a Yahoo address with her name, a phone number and a city of residence. Among the publications that fell for the ruse were the Philadelphia Daily...

As the skit in Saturday Night Live goes....oh really?? The Capital was hoodwinked into publishing a bogus letter to the editor because it demonstrates "how acceptable lying has become in a new electronic world where disguising identities is the norm." Oh really?
Granted, he did lie, but come on, was the publication of the letter really a result of an electronic world? Or maybe it was for a lack of diligence? Or maybe a little extra space?
While you take aim at technology every chance you get, you do have to admit that it has certainly helped out The Capital in some instances.
Wouldn't a "sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug" admission been sufficient?
