Two Republicans - Maureen Carr-York and Dick Ladd - hope to fill the shoes of County Council member Cathy Vitale, who is running for a House of Delegates seat. Since this successor will be judged against the standard of Vitale's superb constituent service in Severna Park, he or she had better be someone with roots in community organizations.
Our choice is Maureen Carr-York, who has been involved with numerous organizations, including the PTA, the Citizen Advisory Committee, youth sports, her community association, the Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce and, most notably, the Board of Education. Her extensive record of...

Facts are not negative - 2010-09-08 10:29:04
I am amazed at how candidates cry when they see their past records and current shortcoming in print. Bissett getting supporters to comment on the board to make him a victim is weak. I recall all of the Owens bashing in 2002. So it is ok for him to draw comparisons but not others? Im independent, so no chance to vote, but my spouse is and proud to say her vote is about issues and yes, past record and facts are a part of it. Bissett has been absent from any community issues and events over the past 3 years. Three other candidates out of the 5 at least have tried to get out there for us. How Bissett is a real consideration is beyond me. Can you say Perennial Candidate not once, not twice, not thrice, but four time over. All of these candidates have done their share of comparing. That is what happens in campaigns. Glad Im not in Dist 33. Reilly King is a bloodbath. Dist 7 is nothing in comparison. Hey Stan, how is a voting record negative unless you were the person who didnt show up? I want to know attendance records and Johnson and Bissett seem to be absent when in office more than not.

Its about issues - 2010-09-08 10:15:02
Mailers always get hard hitting. Bissett sent horrible women bashing mailers against Ownens in 2002 and implied that women cant handle the job w/o husband pulling their strings. Sexist AND negative. Im not fond of seeing comparison pieces like corkadels, but they seem to have facts listed, not the bashing Reilly is doing, with cartoons and name calling. If bissett is embarrassed by what he has done, he should not have run again. He abandoned our community when he did nothing about his sons drug arrest. Stan, you should review your criteria for picking candidates. Yours just doesnt add up. Walker or Cork both are good conservatives. Either would be better than a has-been perennial candidate who cant attack the others not because he wont but because he cant afford to cause no one supports him anymore. If you think bissett is qualified because of his past, then you MUST consider his past shortcoming along side of them. Comparing what someone did 20 years ago to what the other candidates are doing for the community TODAY, here and now is crazy, almost as much as saying Bissett never negative campaigned. How easy we forget the WHOLE past.

Well...... - 2010-09-08 05:55:13
The two guys out of Crofton seem clueless! The lady from Davidsonville seems to be in way over her head, and shouldn't have been nominated to the position in the first place! That leaves these two!
I have gotten a lot of political mailers for this race, the Senate race, and the Delegate race. The Corkadel mailers are all negitive, finger pointing, and leave me to believe she is very desperate! The Reilly mailers are the same! I think Reilly hurt himself alot with some of his mailers. Just poorly written, desperate finger pointing junk! Also, for a man who has spent nearly 10 years in public office, he has accomplished next to nothing!
President Reagan said "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican."
Between Corkadel & Reilly, I think that "11th Commandment" of Reagan's has been completely trampled on!
So, since the Council race is between Bissett and Corkadel anyway, & the Senate race between King & Reilly, (not sure of the 3rd guys name), I think Bissett and King are going to get my vote! Still undecided on the Delegates though!
