Is This You? - 2009-10-29 10:10:38
Is This You? I am a retail worker in Annapolis. Daily we have hundreds of great customers, patient customers, helpful customers. On occasion there pops up one wacko. Is this you? Do you go into a store and try to get a worker fired because they cant tell you how a product is manufactured? Crazy? It happened in my store. Do you complain that the worker doesnt have enough knowledge about a craft you do but you dont know the product you need yourself? Is this you? And then try to get the worker fired? Just because you cant get 200 pieces of a specific product, dont go whining about it to the store manager and try to get a person who is working as best they can fired. That person contributes to the community through taxes and buying power. They run their families and probably are the insurance holder for their family. Otherwise they wouldnt be working in a lower paying job when they are probably qualified to perform in a better paying job that no longer exists. So the next time YOU, and you know who you are, go on a witch hunt stop and think just a sec, wouldja? If you have that much spare time on your complaining, nasty hands, why not turn it around and do something positive for a change. Go work at Food Bank or a soup kitchen or the Lighthouse Shelter. Or one of a zillion other charity things available in this great town of Annapolis. Volunteer to clean up Weems Creek. Something. Jeesh. And hey, while you are in the store, put the stuff back where you found it if you change your mind!

Mayoral Election? - 2009-10-06 20:02:54
When is the Capital going to start covering the upcoming election? Where are the candidate bios? What about an article about the differences between the candidates? I really do not understand how a local newspaper is not covering one of the most important topics of our city. There are three candidates for Mayor that should be interviewed and be able to provide us insight into their views for the city. Isn't this important? Personally, I cannot think of a more important topic for Annapolis than who should be our next Mayor. Am I the only one?

City Elections - 2009-09-10 01:30:01
For a decade my late friend and I Ms Bertina Nick worked hard to change attitudes and improve on this cities quality of life. Closing the door to this cities political and leadership status quo and their cronies. This year we have an opportunity to elect someone that is more than qualified and although a native not beholding to that same old regime that has spoon fed rhetoric for years most often achieving nothing. the Capital has endorsed Mr. Cohen whom I know well but is still much of the same old tired group of cronies and he will improve nothing. Ms McFall has pandered to the African American community in ways that are truly upsetting. Mr. Taylor is not ready and he and Mr. Cohen have abandoned their responsibility to citizens on more than one occasion costing the citizens plenty! Ms. Pierre although relatively new is the breath of fresh air! With the credentials that she has brought to the table along with the connections and understanding she brings of Washington politics she surely is the better choice! I absolutely hate to mention race but I know that if she had been a Caucasian woman born and raised in this city who had gone of to establish herself and returned to benefit the city that she loves with her experience and knowledge she would have been hands down surrounded by all with endorsements coming from every section of this city! Wake up Annapolitians and do the right thing on Sept 15th if you truly wish to foster a better future for our city and our guest!

Bike "Friendly" City - 2009-07-14 10:07:05
The majority of bike paths in Annapolis are located in less than desirable areas. The sections of town are not immediately well defined and a month into my residency I was mugged near Hilltop Road. Last month I was struck on West Street by a womens side view mirror. Luckily it hit the handle bars and I was able to control the bike long enough to avoid a parked car and slam into a flexible sapling tree. Driving away in her Lexus and yelling at me to stay off the road was undoubedtly a classy response to my sprained wrist.
Today I was riding to work on West Street. Cars are always parked on the side of the road when you approach Park Place and this time I could see a truck approaching from behind me. I often use the sidewalk for about a hundred feet when approaching this area since the road is narrow and I had been struck there before. Walking toward me on the sidewalk was a man power walking and so I slowed down and moved far to the left leaving a good 4 feet between us. My reward was to be screamed at for riding on the sidewalk when theres a whole road'. Understanding his concerns I stopped to discuss the incident but it seemed he only wanted to vent in passing. If I am on the sidewalk (which is 10 feet wide) there should be enough room in the next couple hundred feet for both of us in the early hours of the morning. To the ladies, please do not act surprised when your pomeranean chases after my bike on the 20 feet of that mechanical leash you allow it. I can guarantee you would have sooner noticed if it ran into traffic. Shame on anyone for bothering/hitting/harassing a young female business professional on the way to work.

Diversity at USNA - 2009-06-14 15:41:47
Horrified doesn't begin to describe my reaction to Mr. Fleming's diatribe. As a white woman who battled to the top levels of a Fortune 50 company and listened to white men complain that I was taking "their" positions away from them, I can't believe we're still dealing with this level of ignorance in 2009 without yet acknowledging that the root problems still exist. As the mother of a bi-racial woman graduate of the Academy, I can assure you that she was fully qualified by means of her test scores, leadership experiences, rigorous coursework, and sports participation. But so what? Any institution worth its salt will flush out any of those who can't handle it or who don't (ultimately) belong, and fortunately for Mr. Fleming, it's easier to flush out incompetent students than incompetent instructors. The fact is that with about 1000 openings for 12,000+ applicants, lots of competent candidates of all races and genders will not be accepted. Perhaps Mr. Fleming should take a field trip to the fleet and check out the "real" Navy. Maybe then he would have a better grasp of the importance of diversity.

Consumer Alert - Premier Bathrooms, - 2009-04-22 19:24:43
Consumers, have you ever heard of the company called Premier Bathrooms?
Let me introduce you.
They have no store front and no physical Business presence in Maryland, except for contractual "consultants" who manages complaints, Premier's Field Service Manager (443)-912-8907 whom Premier sent to my mother's house to check the drain as their "gesture of goodwill."
Premier's corporate office is at 2330A South Nova Road, Daytona, Fl. 32119, at telephone no: (386) 761-1830, fax: (386)-761-6754, and on the web at: www premier-bathrooms.com
They are a sleazy operation whose target market is the vulnerable elderly. They utilize concerns of the elderly such as falling, pain, and arthritis and prey on their fear to sell these cheap quality but overpriced shower stalls.
My mother fell victim to their TV ads and before we knew it, she had an aggressive salesman in her house (their only means of selling) who went to work on her with his typical sales tactics, telling her he would only be in town another day and that if she wanted it soon, she would have to order it now because it takes a long time to get as he claimed they were imported from Germany. I believe these to be fabrications, as they are common and very effective but deceptive sales tactics.
FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS POORER, my mother now has what they call a "walk-in shower stall that she can barely get into sideways. There is a seat with a back at 90 degrees, so the person must sit bolt upright hardly relaxing.
She has not been able to utilize the hydrotherapy, because the first time she entered the shower and closed the door, she realized if she filled the tub to capacity for the full so called benefit, she would have been stuck in the shower until the 80+ gallons of water drained, a potentially dangerous scenario. Not wanting to subject herself to the discomfort of sitting in cooling water waiting for the water to drain low enough to enable her to open the door and "walk-out" she can now only take a shower. The questionable "hydrotherapy" feature cannot be used at all. Premier only installs a standard 1" drain, grossly inadequate for this use

Although Mr. Overman doesnt describe the nature of the letter I assume that it must have been quite negative. I understand his concern and am saddened that any of our readers might go to such extremes. The managers of this site strongly discourage users from seeking out others outside of this forum. Be assured that we do not and will not share any personal information with users. People who comment on sites such as this one tend to be more passionate about issues than the average reader. When we first started accepting comments we required users to give us complete identification when registering. This was done in an attempt to instill some feeling of responsibility. We also required real names. That requirement was relaxed and has now essentially been eliminated. In fact, all along our users have had the option of signing their posts with only their initials. In a perfect world I would prefer that everyone show the courage of their convictions and sign their comments with their real name. But in the real world weve recognized that such requirements are an impediment to users. Just this week we made the registration process simpler. I encourage Mr. Overman to continue commenting on this site. If he would be more comfortable signing with initials or some other moniker that is his option.

Culture of Corruption - 2009-03-29 13:45:44
I read a letter of interest in Sunday's opinion page from a Mr. Kay. Now mind you, I think both sides of the political aisle need supervison. However when Bush is blames for the mortgage mess, Mr. Kay, Barney Frank and Bllie boy Clinton started the mess. Bush continued it but how else do you think we got out of the technological stock market crash in the late nineties. Now Mr. Kay, what state is Obama from? Illinois, you know Al Capone's State. As a matter of fact din't Obama get a good deal on his land from one of the so called mob men. Of course there is the Daley Democratic Policital Machine. HOwever, the current senator got appointed becasue his nephew paid the gov. with a political contribution. Gee, why go so far as Illinois, how about that La. house of representative that keep his cash in a refrig in the Capitol Building. Talk about cool cash, he was a democrat also. Of course there is the representative that hit a capitol police officer, she was a democrat from Cleveland and somehow it got pushed under the table. We could go one or you could pick up the NY Sunday Dailey News were they are calling enough from the democrats and coruption in New York. But why go any further than your own state. Every time there is a scandal in DC from Enron to Abrahm, good old Barb Miluski got politcal contritubtions from them. What about Baltiomre? Gee the mayor and a coucil person up one charges. Of couse if you read the internet you would know about Biden 's daugher Ashley and the line of coccanie she snorted at a party. Of course we could go on about Biden and the culture of corruption by just following around his children and how if it were me I would be in jail. Hmmmh. Bush is bad. Heck hardly.

Texting while driving - 2009-03-20 12:17:01
Isn't it interesting how our "leadership" in the legislature says one thing and does another?
While driving home Wednesday, I happened to follow a Cadillac with House of Delegates license number 67. I'm not sure whether this particular delegate voted for or against a measure making "texting" while driving illegal in the state of Maryland, but he sure knew how to "work" his Blackberry as I watched in horror as he sped out of Annapolis cutting off a fellow driver as he moved into traffic at the on ramp to US50, nearly clipping the vehicle he cut off. Perhaps if he wasn't so intent on reading his "messages" he could have driven safely.
I guess what's good for the goose really isn't good for the gander.

History Made in the City of Annapol - 2009-03-14 15:30:31
In December 2008, the City of Annapolis promoted Aaron Boston to the rank of Captain. Capt. Boston is the first African-American to hold this position. I think that The Capital missed a great opportunity in sharing this historical moment with the local community. This is a story that deserves to be told and I hope that The Capital agrees. I hope to see something printed soon. What a wonderful accomplishment.
Congratulations Capt. Aaron Boston.

BGE & OUR METERS - 2009-03-03 17:32:21
Everyone in AA county knows their electric bills spiked here last month. Many have complained and now BGE is having to explain the rise in complaints. My question and one that needs you to get your representative to back a bill.
Why is it that we can read the gas station meter, we can read the meter on the oil delivery truck but 99% of us have an electric meter on our houses and we cannot read them? These meters are archaic and could easily be changed into a digital number screen. That way all home owners and renter could see and adjust their use of electric power. Why are we in the dark with what we use until we get a bill? Why should we have to trust a MONOPOLY company to read our meters correctly and not put it in their favor? And while I am on the subject Gas Stations are checked on a quarterly basis for accuracy of the meters. Why is it, our Government does not have someone to check our meters for accuracy? How old is the meter on your house?
We need a law to change this situation and take the upper hand from the Electric Company who likes to say ?we had a colder than normal month which is why your bill went up.?
Maybe our legislators could look out for the people instead of making idiotic laws on a State Cake, State Walking Stick or State Song Changes...... Where is the common sense on the hill?

Regarding Mixed President - 2009-01-24 22:58:46
I just wanted to remind everyone of history. It was stated in slavery days that if you had a drop of black blood in your veins you was concerned a black person.
But the point that I wanted to make as well was,yes everyone should celebrate that in 2009 a black person did become president. I also think what is most important is that this man was voted in office by everyone, white , black, hispanic and all other ethnic groups. And, for that I celebrate. Thanks for reading!

Here is an idea - 2009-01-24 12:11:56
Why don't we look back into our history books or past president's heritages and if we find a past president who has some black in his family, we can change history and make that president our first black president. Maybe our first hispanic, or Irsih and so on and so ! That is why it's important to have history written as correctly as possible. Because if we are going to have a President who is only partially black and called black, then I guess it's only fair to go back into history and change other presidents who may have other races in them. Maybe, we already had our first black president and don't know it. If you acknowledege your race, whether it's black, white or mixed, then there is no question and history is written correctly. If you don't, then it's only fair that we go back into the history files and correct all that may have a partial race in them. And Not just Presidents !

I'm not trying to put people in convenient little boxes. I just want History written correctly and people get the appropriate credit correctly. Obama is mixed raced PERIOD and should be credited as so. Lets not write history incorrectly. Everyone is pushing him as Black ONLY. They push it enough and history will be written wrong! WE have enough incorrect history as it is. Why continue to do it? Especially if we know the correct answer. FOR EXAMPLE: If John (The Man) decides to become a Transvestite and does the changes. Then becomes President. What do we have? A man President? Our First Woman President? Or our First Transvestite President? Or should we write history incorrectly and say it's an Elephant ?

Unfortunately, most people want you to identify yourself as either black or white because it speaks more to your "identity" then anything a piece of paper, or a checked box on a census could tell you. One would assume that Obama most likely identified himself more black than white simply from his outward appearance. I would bet that if you asked 100 people what race "Person X" is and held up a picture of Obama (before he came on the political scene), 95 of them would say he was black or African American, and not mixed or white. Honestly, if he tried to say he was white, wouldn't you find that odd? As for voting based on race, I don't see an issue in that either. There are far worse reasons to vote for someone other than race, and some people just feel more comfortable voting for someone who looks like them.

President Obama - 2009-01-23 12:20:15
For those of you that do not understand my comments a few days ago. I'm not trying to say that Obama is less of a President because of his color then any other president. What I'm saying is. HISTORY should be wriiten CORRECTLY and if he is a mixed race president, then it should be written as so ! If he is Black, then he's Black. If he's White, then he's White, however if he's mixed, then he's Mixed. Don't change history to fit your needs. Write history correctly. If we are not going to write history correctly and just write what we want it to be, then lets just change history and say that there was no slavary or no holocaust!. Unfortunately, when the first all black president does come into office, at the rate things are going, he or she will not get the priviledge of having the title "The First Black President" as he or she is intitled to. Obama should be addressed as our first Mixed raced president. His mixed blood line doesn't go back many generations where you have to try to find a mixed relationship. His mix starts at his Mom and Dad. He isn't a little of this or a little of that. He is absolutely half of this and half of that. And if any of you out there think that race doesn't matter to him, then why does he call himself Black and not White, after all he is 50% White. Is it because he feels it's better to be Black then White. Or is "Today I'm Black Because It Fits My Political Agenda". What would he have called himself if White would have been a better agenda? What does that tell you ! Why doesn't he claim himself as a mixed race and be "One For All". Is he just playing the "Trump Card". Or is he taking the glory away for the Whole Raced Black American who someday will be president. I just think that his campaign should have been truthful to his true mixed race and not just picked whatever race fit him better politically. Black or White. You all have him so High on the Pedestal, that the direction left is down.

Mixed Feelings - 2009-01-23 10:40:26
I am proud that our nation has elected a man of color. I didn't vote for the guy, (I wrote in a candidate)... but I'm happy that we've come far enough that he could win. What I find truly sad though is that there were still WAY too many people that voted for or against him JUST because of his skin color. This occurred on both sides... and while certainly not in the majority, there were still too many people that voted by color. Just sad. When we finally get by this race thing (100 years from now? i hope it doesn't take that long but i suspect it will) Our country will be so much better off. Judge the man on his character and actions, not his color. Good luck to him... he'll need it for sure... He has been hyped so high I fear there is nowhere to go with expectations but lower. But that's not his fault. Regardless of how you voted in November... call your representatives regularly and tell them what you think... maybe they will listen... if not, vote them out! They are your voice.

Obama-A 'Black' President - 2009-01-19 15:35:01
It's sad, and distressing that we now have a more divided country as a result of the President-elect Obama being referred to as a 'Black' President. I have many black people asking my opinions about the 'Change' that is coming, and get branded a racist when I am not outwardly elated at Barak's winning the election. Mind you, these are people I have know for years, and they never once asked questions about my political leanings. Had they taken the time to, they would have learned that I am not particularly fond of the Democratic party, nor the liberal slant that both Maryland and the US has taken. That being said, I will aspire to show the requisite amount of respect for Mr. Obama's positon (POTUS), and hope that he can earn my respect for his actions/deeds as well. I will not stoop to the level of disrespect that most of the Democrats/Liberals did in the last 4 years.

What's it matter? - 2009-01-19 14:41:26
Why do you care what Obama calls himself? It's his right to call himself whatever he wants and history or petty semantics have little meaning. What's it mean to be completely anything? Few blacks in the U.S. are 100% African or whatever. Few whites are 100%...what? Are whites different if they're Scandinavian or Italian? There's a continuum of race all around this planet. The lines between them are hopelessly fuzzy so why try to force certain people into your convenient little boxes? Why can't Obama be celebrated as the first black president and be president of all the people at the same time? This is the same rubbish that was said about John Kennedy...how's a Catholic going to be president for people of all religious faiths. Get over it.

President Obama - 2009-01-19 11:27:00
I once wrote a comment stating that I disagreed with most people trying to change history to fit their needs or wants. I believe history should be written correctly and honestly. Most people are pushing and writing that we have our first Black President. I say write history correctly. Obama's mother was white and his father was Black. Why does so many people call him our next Black President. He is just as much White as he is Black. Just because he looks more Black then White, doesn't make him anymore Black. He is our first mixed President and I think that the Black people out there should not short cut themselves. I believe that when the time comes that a True Black person becomes President, the Black people should Truly Celebrate History Correctly and be proud. As for President Obama, I believe that all the mixed race people have something to be proud of. We have Black People, White People, Mixed People and so on and so on. Lets keep history as correct as possible. I do believe that the Black race has their first Black First Lady and they should be proud of that and the history record books should state that. I see all these Celebrities and people at the inaugurauguration jumping up and down about our first Black President. What happened to Obama for ALL PEOPLE ! I Like Obama. I hope he does well, however I think he promised more then he can deliver ! Don't They All ! I've noticed the back sliding already ! GOD HELP US !

Heater Advertisements - 2009-01-16 14:25:37
For those of you tempted by the extravagant claims for the free heaters advertised in full page ads lately (all you pay for are the Amish mantels0, here are some facts:
These are simple electric heaters. The 5119 BTUs on High and the 8 cents per hour on Standard correspond to 1500 watts and 1200 watts respectively. In other words, you can get just as much heat out of 15 or 12 one hundred watt bulbs. The huge savings promised in the ads are achievable, but only if you reduce your thermostat setting to the mid-thirties and move the heater from room to room along with you?and wait patiently for the new room to heat up. Cut those savings seriously, if you and your significant other want to sit in separate rooms.
Bottom line: you can get an equally effective, 1200 to 1500 watt electric heater at a hardware store or Home Depot for a fraction of the cost. Granted, it won?t have an attractive Amish mantel.

Vermin Spotted - 2009-01-05 08:21:46
My family and I were headed to dinner this past Friday evening at the Canton Inn off Rowe Boulevard here in Annapolis. As we were walking through the parking lot on the side of the plaza, which houses Graul's Market, Naval Bagels and a pizza place, we noticed several large rodents running around behind the plaza. At first we thought they were rabbits or maybe squirrels but that wasn't the case. We went into the Canton Inn to sit for dinner and the family sitting next to us, at a window seat, announced out loud that there was a rat running up the ramp adjacent to the restaurant! On our way out we noticed that the rats were still behind the plaza seeming not to be disturbed by our presense at all.
I wonder if health inspections occur at these locations (I assume they do), and if so, if they have come across anything like this.

South County Stand - 2008-09-30 14:45:24
Unfortunately, most of the people who commented about the Bishop Farm Stand don't live in Harwood. They live outside of the area and drive by to purchase their produce. While we agreed to let them sell produce, we didn't agree to have buildings constructed without permits, a porta potty set on the site and canned goods sold. If the law exists and it applies to some but not all, then it is an unfair law. Anne Arundel County zoning officials need to step up to the plate and do their jobs. As for the county representatives that we have elected, shame on them for allowing illegal businesses to continue to operate. Mr. Ed Reilly has done nothing to support the folks in South County unless it gets his name in the paper. As for the comments from "MAD AS HELL", I have lived in Harwood for over 20 years and I'm tired of having everyone's junk in my back yard. I have lived in this county for 34 years and it only continues to get worse. We get gas stations, crowded roads, peoples trash, stone yards and illegal roadside stands. Yet when we apply for a building permit or family conveyance, we get a bunch of garbage from the county and no representation from our representatives. Sign me "An angry Harwood citizen"

Jury Selection - 2008-08-20 08:54:49
I just found out that in Anne Arundel County, the Circuit Court uses the DMV Driver's License list to pull jurors for the Circuit Court. It used to be the Voter Registration list since you had to be a citizen to serve as juror, but now they use both lists. In Maryland, non-citizens have driver's licenses, and the Circuit Court is pulling jurors from that list. So now we have non-citizens serving as jurors in the Circuit Court in Anne Arundel County. What next? Illegals appointed as judges I guess.

Congress Ignors Energy - 2008-08-07 20:57:25
Last week, the U.S. Congress left Washington without addressing the energy crisis. They didn't deal with gas prices. They didn't move on solutions to climate change. What's worse, their inability to renew the clean energy tax credits means that government incentive programs to support the solar and wind industries will expire at the end of this year. As the result of Congress' inaction, jobs will be lost and precious development time will be wasted.
Scientists, engineers and entreprenuers say that America can generate 100% of our electricity from clean sources -- and they say that we can do it within ten years. We can not make the shift to renewable energy sources -- rebuilding our economy and cutting fuel costs with inaction.
In a year when 'change' has become a refrain, let's tell Congress how we feel and show them what real change looks like. It is time for change.
All across this great country we hear about letters to the editor in support of the oil industry -- it seems to be a clear sign of an orchestrated campaign to maintain the status quo. We need to respond -- to make sure the media stops focusing on simplistic and misleading proposals that will worsen our economy. There is no time to waste. It is time for change.

Most people living in these developments are hard working people. Well if they are so hard working then why are they in Public Housing living on the taxpayers dime? By all means spend your hard earned money on rent.

What.... - 2008-05-21 14:41:51
In a letter to the editor entitled "Public Housing" on May 19th, I would like to know why, if 30% of the people living there can afford to buy a house in A.A. County, as Belawn McGowan stated, Why in the hell am I paying for them to live in the projects? Belawn also goes on to say that white people know nothing of the history and culture, It seems to me that if Public Housing, drugs and murder are part of it something needs to change. Someone from the outside trying to change things is more than the people that reside in the neighborhoods do. Help yourself for a change.

Bus Driver - 2008-05-14 13:45:35
At 1:05 on 5/14 on Davidsonville Rd. in Davidsonville where the speed limit drops to 35 mph, I witnessed a blonde female bus driver doing well over the posted speed, driving with one hand and talking on her cell phone. I don't know what she was paying attention to, perhaps the phone call, but it wasn't the speed limit.

Illegals - 2008-04-26 08:35:12
Okay, How much are A.A. County taxpayers paying to teach illegals? I bet if only legal students were enrolled in our schools things would not be as tight or as grim as they are.

MD property tax - 2008-04-03 09:02:24
Forgive me for stating the obvious, but the lawmakers in Annapolis continue to reach for every single drop of blood through unreasonable taxation. My latest home assessment shows my home gaining 12% in value in the next three years (for tax purposes). Maybe these folks should examine the Standards and Poor's Case-Shiller report on regional home values across the US. They show a dramatic fall since late 2004 und still falling. I do not mind paying increased taxes when my home actually gains value, but it is not. Maybe MD lawmakers should cut spending.

Doonesbury - 2008-03-28 14:55:57
Please tell me what happened to Doonesbury. If I remember correctly, several months ago The Capital took great pains to find out what comics its readers wanted. There was some controversy over Doonesbury, but as many liked it as didn't. And it was not one of the strips that was suggested as a possibility for replacement. Now, without any warning, Doonesbury disappeared. I like Pearls Before Swine and I'm happy to see it daily. I completely agree with Theresa D. GET RID OF CATHY with its insipid attempt at humor. Please bring back Doonesbury or give your readers a good reason that we're not getting it.
Thank you.

Annapolis Basketball - 2008-03-02 05:06:51
I would just like to express my extreme discomfort with Annapolis' ranking in the tournement. How can a team with a record of 14-9 recieve a 14 seed? I must say this is the worst ranking I have ever seen between high school and college in my life. I actually got sick when I saw meade and northeast above the panthers. I'm noot sure what has happened in the MPSSAA, but serious changes need to be considered once they look back on what happened this season.

Choice is good - 2008-02-25 22:21:46

I came across this article in a local paper and I was really relieved to see an elected official taking a stance and promoting new business in the area. It?s not anything ground breaking but anytime a community is given the ability to choose, it?s always a step in the right direction. And what's even better is the company is a well respected telephone, internet and cable provider. I?ve used Cavalier for some time now and the city of Baltimore is in for some good times.

Death penalty - 2008-01-15 11:13:52
I see that most Maryland residents
favor the sanction.
It would be nice to see a poll of how many favor actually using it.
Surely some of the cases are not in doubt as to the guilt of the condemned and could be carried out.
I believe it would be a deterent if it were used, however, if it does not act as a deterrent as many claim then perhaps it should still be administered for the punishment of the crime.

Thanks, Bill Wagner - 2007-12-09 08:30:49
As a big Georgia Tach fan living in this area, thanks to Bill Wagner for your great coverage (esp. the blog) of the Paul Johnson hiring.
Many of my Tech cronies have relied on your blog and coverage to stay informed about Coach PJ's hiring process. You singlehandedly dominated all coverage by the Atlanta Journal Consitution.
Now that the issue of which assistants are coming with PJ is being completed, I officially request that you come to Atlanta with PJ to be the AJC Georgia Tech football beat reporter.
Thanks again!!!

Paul Johnson - 2007-12-08 16:02:30
No one will beat him up for taking a fantastic opportunity. What disappoints me ie his public comments abou7t not looking, saying it would take a phenomanel opportunity for him to consider leaving. As the facts unfold it turns out he was in heavy talks with three schools. Under similar circumstances if one of his players said similar remarks they would have been guilty of a violation of the honor code.
