News came via phone yesterday of the first bluegill catch I've heard of this year - and it wasn't far from where one would expect to hear of anglers trying for the first rockfish of the year up on the Susquehanna Flats where the special catch-and-release season is underway. Let's put it this way; the season is underway, but the catching isn't.
The bluegill wasn't big, only about 41/2 inches long - and the "angler" didn't have a rod, says North East tackle shop proprietor Herb Benjamin, who witnessed the catch along the shore of the Northeast River.
Herb says the Izaak Walton was a furry creature that many consider a vegetarian...
