Running events rely on giving spirit to keep costs down There aren't many sports as low cost as running. It's said that all you need is a pair of shorts, possibly a top, a scrunchie and shoes. Races come cheap. The entry fee usually covers expenses. No one is making out. The runs that pay big money to winners have deep-pocket sponsors who charge it off to advertising.
